The Complete Diploma in Trauma Surgery brings together two distinct diploma courses — Adult Trauma and Paediatric Trauma — each with its own curriculum, assessment and certificate.
Surgeons enrolled in the course begin with the Adult Trauma Diploma in September, building a thorough grounding in the full adult orthopaedic trauma curriculum across five modules. The 18 live, expert-led sessions range from damage control orthopaedics and pelvic reconstruction through upper and lower limb trauma, to non-union, periprosthetic fracture, infection and geriatric trauma.
The Paediatric Trauma Diploma follows in February 2027, covering the distinct demands of the immature skeleton. Over 15 live online sessions with leading paediatric trauma surgeons, the course covers injury management in the growing skeleton, including physeal injuries, upper and lower limb fractures, and paediatric polytrauma, and a final case-based module built around complex clinical decision-making.
Teaching is delivered by internationally recognised trauma surgeons through live online seminars, interactive case discussions and examination-focused learning.

Who is the Complete Diploma in Trauma Surgery for?
The Complete Diploma in Trauma Surgery curriculum is designed for:
– Senior residents and fellows who want complete trauma coverage before fellowship.
– Trauma and orthopaedic surgeons who treat both adult and paediatric injuries.
– Consultants in general hospitals managing paediatric trauma alongside an adult workload.
– Exam candidates, such as surgeons preparing for national and international fellowship examinations across both curricula.
We welcome surgeons from all around the world. Because the course is taught live on Zoom and in a deliberately small cohort, delegates don’t simply listen to lectures — they discuss real cases and clinical application drawn from a wide range of healthcare settings and countries. That breadth of perspective is part of the learning: how an injury is managed in one system isn’t always how it’s managed in another, and those differences make for richer, more practical discussion.

Online Learning: Live and On-Demand
Each week you’ll receive a link to join a live online session with your fellow delegates, the course director — a leading trauma surgeon — and an invited expert with world-class experience in that week’s area of trauma. Sessions run for around an hour and are fully interactive, with the chance to put your questions directly to surgeons at the top of the field.
If you can’t attend live, the recording is available afterwards, so you never miss a session.
After each class, five formative MCQs are released into the online learning space alongside the recording, helping you consolidate the material whenever suits you. Once all sessions are complete, you’ll be assigned three topics and sit a summative single-best-answer paper, graded with individual feedback. On successful completion you’ll receive a digital certificate — and your access to every recording continues for a full year.
Trauma Surgery Course Curriculum
The Complete Diploma in Trauma Surgery brings together two distinct diploma courses — Adult Trauma and Paediatric Trauma — each with its own curriculum, assessment and certificate.
Over five modules (18 sessions), the Adult Trauma curriculum runs from principles and pelvic trauma through the upper and lower limbs, with a dedicated wrist session and a final module on non-union, periprosthetic fracture, infection and geriatric trauma.
The next five modules (15 sessions) focus on Paediatric Trauma, covering the unique principles of injury management in the growing skeleton, including physeal injuries, upper and lower limb fractures, paediatric polytrauma, growth disturbance, deformity following injury, and the management of complications.

ADULT MODULE 1
PRINCIPLES & POLYTRAUMA
(4 sessions)
Damage control orthopaedics and the physiology of injury; open fractures and the orthoplastic approach; compartment syndrome, vascular injury and the mangled extremity; fracture biology, healing and the principles of fixation.
ADULT MODULE 2
PELVIS & ACETABULUM
(2 sessions)
Pelvic ring injuries from acute resuscitation through definitive percutaneous and open fixation; acetabular fractures from Letournel classification through surgical approaches, fixation and acute total hip arthroplasty in the elderly.
ADULT MODULE 3
UPPER LIMB TRAUMA
(3 sessions)
Clavicle, scapula, proximal humerus and humeral shaft; distal humerus, elbow and forearm; a dedicated session on distal radius and wrist injuries.
Carpal injuries are covered in the Hand Diploma.
ADULT MODULE 4
LOWER LIMB TRAUMA
(5 sessions)
Hip fractures (intracapsular and extracapsular); femoral shaft and ipsilateral neck-shaft fractures; distal femur and knee periarticular trauma; tibial plateau, shaft and pilon fractures; ankle and foot trauma including Lisfranc.
ADULT MODULE 5
COMPLICATIONS & SPECIAL POPULATIONS
(4 sessions)
Non-union and malunion reconstruction; periprosthetic fractures; fracture-related infection; geriatric trauma, frailty and fragility fractures (including sacral insufficiency and fragility pelvic ring injuries).

FINAL ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATE
Online Written Assessment
Delegates will complete a summative Single Best Answer paper, and submit three 1,500-word essays on topics relating to the content taught in the Adult Trauma curriculum. Topics will be assigned in January 2027, with essays due in February 2027.

Growth plate biology, Salter-Harris and the immature skeleton; non-accidental injury recognition, imaging and the medico-legal interface; paediatric polytrauma, ATLS, resuscitation and the trauma team.
PAEDIATRIC MODULE 2
HIGH VOLUME CONDITIONS: PAEDIATRIC UPPER LIMB
(3 sessions)
Supracondylar humerus fractures; lateral condyle, medial epicondyle and the paediatric elbow; forearm and wrist trauma.
PAEDIATRIC MODULE 3
HIGH VOLUME CONDITIONS: PAEDIATRIC LOWER LIMB
(3 sessions)
Femoral and hip trauma; tibial and ankle trauma; pelvic and acetabular trauma.
PAEDIATRIC MODULE 4

Paediatric spine trauma; open fractures, compartment syndrome and infection in children; failed treatment, malunion and late presentations.

Three live sessions focused entirely on complex decision-making — case-based, interactive, and designed around the questions that do not have a single right answer.
